Corporate Responsibility is about values, words and – above all – deeds
Family ownership and 115 years' experience in the paper industry lay the foundation for MYLLYKOSKI's long-term commitment and comprehensive approach to sustainability.
The Myllykoski values – flexibility, customer intimacy and reliability – are all built on responsible business practices, and commitment to continuous improvement in economic, environmental and social performance is an essential part of the family-owned company’s business strategy.
Sustainable forest management, recycling, responsible sourcing, energy and material conservation, waste water and air emission control as well as reliable business partnerships and equality in employment are fundamental but also everyday corporate responsibility issues for Myllykoski. The global call to mitigate climate change and both international and national regulative actions
on carbon dioxide emissions abatement have placed carbon footprint management in the spotlight.
MYLLYKOSKI strongly supports forest certification based on independent third party verification. Forest Certification is an efficient tool for enhancing sustainable forest management. Myllykoski supports PEFC (incl. SFI) and FSC which are both international in scope, with internationally agreed principles and which rest on third-party, independent certification.
All Myllykoski's paper mills are certified according to the PEFC (incl. SFI) and/or FSC chain of custody (CoC) standards. The traceability and certified CoC systems of Myllykoski’s mills and wood sourcing units ensure that the origin of wood is always known and documented, and that the wood raw material complies with Myllykoski’s Sustainability Policy.
MYLLYKOSKI is a pioneer within the paper industry in the use of recovered paper and de-inking technologies and has expanded the use of recovered fibre to include most of the printing and publishing grades. However, recycling requires a constant complement of fresh fibres, so fresh fibre from sustainably managed forests remains an indispensable raw material in paper production.
