Sustainability and governance
The forest-based industries occupy a significant role in promoting sustainable development. Operations and solutions must be financially profitable, ecologically sustainable and socially acceptable.
The sustainability strategy guides MYLLYKOSKI’s environmental work and ties the sustainability issues to existing business management strategies. The corporate sustainability function is supported by the corporate responsibility committee, whose task is to enhance and broaden the scope of work towards economic and social issues including environmental matters. This provides a firm working platform to support a triple bottom line approach and management of sustainability issues.
MYLLYKOSKI is committed to continuous improvement in quality and environmental issues. All mills have set individual targets, with the focus on improving their environmental performance.
The main goals and focal areas of MYLLYKOSKI’s sustainability and corporate responsibility work in 2009 are the following:
- To continue the work involving the management systems.
- To further fortify responsible fibre sourcing and to further expand product offerings with PEFC and FSC certifications.
- To address and mitigate climate change by further development and utilisation of carbon footprint analysis.
- To raise awareness and understanding on sustainability and corporate responsibility throughout the Myllykoski corporation.
- To develop customer and other stakeholder communication with respect to sustainability and corporate responsibility
